Visalia’s Hidden Crisis: Are You Aware of the 50% Increase in Mental Health Needs? You Won’t Believe the Solutions!

VISALIA, Calif. — In a significant development for the local community, the Visalia Recovery Center has officially opened its doors at a new location on East Caldwell Avenue. For CEO Nolen Burchett, this move represents a dream come true as the center evolves to better serve those struggling with addiction and mental health issues in the South Valley. "Opening a facility in our own hometown was a dream come true," Burchett expressed, emphasizing the importance of having local resources for those in need.

The newly established treatment center boasts not only expanded services but also an increased capacity to accommodate patients. Previously limited to 2,000 square feet and able to serve only 10 to 15 clients at a time, the facility has tripled its size and can now support 25 to 30 individuals simultaneously. Burchett pointed out the critical need for such services, stating, "Visalia doesn't have any other private treatment services. It's a need for this community. We all know how bad drug addiction and alcoholism has affected this community."

The Visalia Recovery Center provides treatment for individuals over the age of 18, catering to a diverse population from various walks of life. The facility includes multiple counseling and office spaces designed to facilitate a supportive environment for recovery.

In a complementary effort, just next door, Ascend and Sierra Meadows Behavioral Health offer mental health support for both children and adults. According to Dr. Jason Christopherson, Vice President of Pediatric Services, one of the major barriers for families seeking help is distance. "We want to help Visalia and the surrounding communities have access to those services," he said, aiming to provide the high-quality care typically found in larger cities.

Dr. Christopherson also highlighted the benefits of the expansion, noting that it will allow for a more talented and diverse team to be assembled. "We're able to have a much more varied team," he explained, indicating that the facility will include mental health professionals, those training to be child psychiatrists, and specialists in group facilitation or case management.

By connecting these two vital services—addiction treatment and mental health care—the facilities aim to address the intertwined issues of substance abuse and mental health disorders comprehensively.

Community members are invited to an open house at the new Visalia Recovery Center location on Wednesday, where they can take a tour of the facility. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will also mark this important occasion, symbolizing a renewed commitment to providing essential health services in the area.

This expansion of services comes at a crucial time in Visalia, where the impacts of addiction and mental health struggles are felt deeply. The collaboration between the Visalia Recovery Center and Ascend Behavioral Health represents a proactive approach to tackling these pressing challenges.
