Rath: For your home opener, you’re facing Gotham FC, the reigning champions. How do you prepare for such a challenging first game?

Guasch: It couldn’t be more exciting, right? Not only are they the defending champions, but they are historic rivals for Boston teams — it's always New York. We couldn’t have asked for a more thrilling team to play in our home opener. It’ll be a significant challenge, but we understand that every team in this league presents a formidable opponent. This matchup is going to be a major spectacle for our fans, and we can’t wait to showcase it.

The debut match will take place at one of Boston's most iconic venues, Gillette Stadium, known for hosting the New England Revolution and the New England Patriots. Guasch emphasized the significance of launching the team in such a prominent stadium, especially with the men’s FIFA World Cup planned for the summer. “It’s an honor, and we’re excited to play not just our home opener there but several other games,” he noted.

Rath: You’re not entirely new to Boston. Can you share a bit about your personal connection to the city and soccer?

Guasch: I first came to Boston in the summer of 2012 when I was working for FC Barcelona’s academy. We organized a summer camp in Concord, and I instantly fell in love with the city. I always knew it was a place where I wanted to live one day, and now here I am, thrilled to be part of the local soccer scene.

Rath: Speaking of soccer, can you tell us about the roster you have prepared for this season?

Guasch: Building a competitive roster in the most competitive league globally was a challenge without an expansion draft or a college draft. We focused on free agents and trades and put significant time and strategy into planning. With a salary cap and transfer fee restrictions, we had to be intentional about every player we brought on board. We aim for a balanced roster, combining experienced players with younger talent. Our focus is on player growth because if they grow, the team grows, which increases our chances of winning.

Guasch emphasized the importance of cultivating a mentality among the players that prioritizes improvement and hard work. “Every player on our roster will contribute at some point, and we want them to be ready to compete in this extremely challenging league,” he stated.
