You Won't Believe How GenAI is Transforming Healthcare at UT—Find Out What You’re Missing!

One of the most ambitious AI projects in US health care aims to enhance care and patient safety across Texas

PALO ALTO, Calif., Jan. 6, 2026 — In a monumental step forward for healthcare technology, Qualified Health has announced a groundbreaking partnership with the University of Texas System to implement generative AI at an unprecedented scale throughout its health institutions. This initiative is part of the University of Texas Research, Engineering, and Application Laboratory for Healthcare Artificial Intelligence (UT REAL Health AI), which seeks to integrate AI tools into care delivery, operations, and research environments safely and responsibly.

"Qualified Health has a vision for safe, measurable AI that improves care and operations at scale," stated Justin Norden, MD, MBA, MPhil, CEO of Qualified Health. He emphasized that the collaboration with the UT System, known for its unmatched academic and healthcare leadership, illustrates how AI can be deployed responsibly to improve patient outcomes and ensure the sustainability of health systems.

The University of Texas System, as one of the largest academic health systems in the country, serves over two million unique patients annually across a diverse range of facilities, including hospitals, specialty clinics, correctional health settings, and academic medical centers. This expansive reach positions the UT System as a vital player in the integration of advanced technology in healthcare.

Under this partnership, the UT System will utilize Qualified Health's HIPAA-compliant AI chat platform to assist clinicians with a wide array of inquiries. Additionally, purpose-built AI agents will enhance staff productivity. The collaboration will also introduce clinical quality registries to monitor and improve patient outcomes, alongside tools that identify care gaps and facilitate timely interventions. By automating tedious tasks such as chart abstraction and documentation, healthcare professionals can redirect their focus towards more patient-centered care.

"UT health institutions serve patients in every corner of Texas," noted Zain Kazmi, chief digital and analytics officer and associate vice chancellor of health affairs at the UT System. "Rather than layering solutions on existing systems, we are constructing a new, shared foundation across the UT System's health enterprise. This approach allows us to introduce new AI deployments consistently, with accountability and long-term impact."

The UT REAL Health AI Initiative aims to significantly enhance the lives of Texans. Peter McCaffrey, chief AI and digital officer at the University of Texas Medical Branch and chair of the UT REAL Health AI initiative, remarked, "Through new AI deployments across our health institutions, we can enhance patients' experiences, advance population health, and reduce overall care costs."

This partnership builds on previous successes from pilot projects at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA)—now part of UT San Antonio—where Qualified Health's enterprise AI product suite has already shown measurable financial and clinical benefits. Historically, generative AI in healthcare has struggled to deliver uniform advantages for patients, often limited to small pilots with inconsistent results and minimal lasting impact. However, Qualified Health's platform offers workflow-level integration, secure data controls, real-time performance monitoring, and healthcare-grade guardrails, empowering health systems to trust AI in high-stakes environments while maintaining clinician confidence and alignment with the mission of patient care.

As AI continues to reshape the healthcare landscape, this partnership represents a significant milestone. By focusing on scalable, safe, and effective AI solutions, the UT System and Qualified Health are poised to lead a transformation that could redefine patient care across Texas and beyond.
