You Won't Believe How Penn State Shocked Clemson in the Freezing Pinstripe Bowl!

Ethan Grunkemeyer delivered an impressive performance, throwing for a career-high 262 yards and two touchdowns, leading Penn State to a 22-10 victory over Clemson in the Pinstripe Bowl on Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium. This game unfolded under difficult conditions, as both teams battled frigid temperatures that hovered around 28 degrees, with a wind chill that made it feel like 19 degrees, compounded by lingering snow piled in the stadium's corners from a recent storm.
Grunkemeyer, stepping up in his seventh start since Drew Allar's injury, completed 23 of 34 passes, setting personal bests in both attempts and completions. His standout moment came early in the fourth quarter when he launched a spectacular 73-yard touchdown pass to Trebor Pena, who caught the ball at the Penn State 44-yard line, evaded a tackle from Clemson safety Ricardo Jones, and sprinted down the left sideline to give the Nittany Lions a 15-3 lead with 12:51 remaining in the game.
In addition to his big play to Pena, Grunkemeyer also connected with Devonte Ross on a critical 35-yard pass that propelled the Nittany Lions into Clemson territory, setting up an 11-yard touchdown toss to Andrew Rappleyea with just 4:56 left in the game, extending Penn State's lead to 22-10.
Pena had a productive game, finishing with five receptions for 100 yards. Earlier in the match, Grunkemeyer also helped set up three field goals by Ryan Barker, who successfully made a 22-yard field goal on Penn State's opening drive and followed it up with two more from 48 yards.
This victory marked a significant turnaround for Penn State, which ended the season with a 7-6 record and won its final four games under interim coach Terry Smith. Smith took over for James Franklin following a close 22-21 loss to Northwestern on October 11 and will soon hand the reins to new head coach Matt Campbell.
On the other side, Clemson's star quarterback Cade Klubnik faced challenges throughout the game, completing 22 of 39 passes for just 110 yards. He was sacked four times and had eight passes broken up by the Penn State defense. The Tigers managed to score their only touchdown on a 2-yard run by Adam Randall late in the game, cutting Penn State's lead to 15-10 with 8:47 left on the clock.
This defeat ended Clemson's four-game winning streak and marked their lowest point total in a bowl game since suffering a 10-7 loss to LSU in the 1999 Peach Bowl. As the season wraps up for both teams, the implications of this matchup resonate well beyond the scoreboard, indicating a potential shift in direction for both programs moving forward.
